Introduction
The addiction system with this mod is relatively complex and has gotten quite a few overhauls since the start of the mod. There has been several tweaks and changes done to make the system seem more realistic, without compromising gameplay value.

Addiction Predisposition
Some Sims will be more predisposed to addictions than others. Once you load up the game with Basemental Drugs in for the first time, all Sims will by random assignment get predisposed (or not).
The random assignment is not completely random, but works something like this:
Each Sim has a 15-20% chance of getting predisposed to addictions.
Some traits will increase their chances. Some traits will decrease their chances.
If one of their parents are predisposed, this will increase their chances of inheriting the predisposition. If both parents are predisposed this will increase the chances further.
Is my Sim predisposed?
You can find out whether or not your Sim is predisposed to addictions, and even toggle it on or off through the Basemental Drugs Settings menu.
This Setting is done on a Sim by Sim basis. Meaning this setting is for the Sim that is currently active and selected, and you can only alter it for actively selected Sims.
What does addiction predisposition do?
To put it short. The chances of getting addicted to absolutely all drugs is quite low. That is for Sims who is not predisposed to addictions.
For Sims who have a predisposition however the addiction chances are fairly high.
Pre-Addiction Phase
Pre-Addiction for Predisposed Sims
That’s a mouthful of a title right there…. Sims who are predisposed to addictions will be more likely to trigger the pre-addiction state when consuming drugs, just like they are also still more likely to go from the pre-addiction state to addiction.
This doesn’t mean that Sims who aren’t predisposed can’t get the state, or go from that state to addiction. It simply means predisposed Sims are more likely to get there from consuming less drugs. The road from pre-addiction to addiction is short, though… regardless of Sims being predisposed or not.
What does Pre-Addiction do and how long does it last?
When a Sim does an unhealthy amount of a substance, the pre-addiction may trigger. It triggers as a buff, quite like the addiction buff, but with a Fine mood.
The buff lasts for 3 days, and during these 3 days the Sim will get occasional additional buffs encouraging them to do that drug they have started to love doing.
If the Sim succumbs to the temptation and keeps on doing a lot of said drug during these 3 days they will eventually trigger addiction.
If the Sim manage to read the warning signs of early onset addiction and stay away from doing that drug during these 3 days, however. They will not trigger addiction.
Addiction
Sims who keeps on overindulging in a drug over a pro-longed period of time will eventually become addicted to said drug.
The addiction will show up as a buff, which lasts for 5 days and is refreshed every time your Sim does more of said drug. If your Sim is not under the influence while the buff is active, he or she might get a lot of negative debuffs until they do more of the drug they are addicted to. Your Sim may also experience various side effects while addicted, depending on the drug they are addicted to.
